Monday November 17
Running lore: On Jan. 31, 1954 the first Philadelphia Marathon was won by Ted Corbitt of New York in 2:36:06 and was about 26 miles. Ted Corbitt, a 1952 USA Olympic Marathon team member, ran 199 marathons and ultra marathons, won 30 of those races, and never dropped out of one until he was 75.

Running Trivia: In 1979 qualifying times were required to officially run the Boston Marathon. Men under age 40 had to have run a marathon in under 2:50. Women and men over 40 had to run a marathon in under 3:20 to qualify.
